This past summer I finally got to go on one of my dream trips to Hawaii. We spent 5 days in Maui exploring the beautiful island. This trip was my first time taking a real vacation. I did not get to do everything I wanted to do but it was an amazing time nonetheless. It also just makes me excited to go back again and experience more of the island’s beauty and the culture. Fortunately, I was able to enjoy so many of the island flavors. My taste buds had a time in Hawaii! We tried so many delicious foods while on vacation I wish I could go back just to taste all the food again. Nothing we tried was a disappointment and there certainly were a few flavors that stood out. On this post I want to share my top four tastes in Maui as a travel novice.
Number one. My favorite meal that we had was from a pizza restaurant in Paia called Flatbread Company. This restaurant was really chill and a perfect way to begin our Hawaiian adventure. The pizza we tried was topped with kalua pig and pineapple. It was thin crust style and melted in our mouths . We had this on our first day out and about and I could not stop thinking about it for the rest of the trip. This pizza is definitely a must have. I thought one of the coolest features of the restaurant was the stone fire oven in the center of restaurant. I always think it’s kind of fun to watch the food be prepared when I go to a new food spot. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and the customer service was definitely on point. Aside from pizza they had a great variety on their menu. I would love to go back one day and try more of their menu selections.
Number 2 was my favorite coffee. Picture this: your perfect iced latte mixed with a summer time pina colada. Sounds too good to be true right ? Well, I had this amazingly delicious latte while in Maui. I can’t say I am a huge coffee connoisseur, but I will say I will enjoy a latte from time to time. We tasted a few different shops and food trucks while in Maui. My favorite was a food truck called Kraken Coffee Maui. I had a “pinacolatte” and it was the unexpected combo I did not know I needed. I still cannot wrap my mind around how it had the perfect balance of the coffee flavor and pineapple at the same time. It was divine. While were there I also tried their cream cheese pretzel which was also very yummy. The customer service was great and I would love to have a taste of that here in Vegas.
Number 3 I had two favorite treats while we were on the island. The first was soft serve dole. We went to The Maui Pineapple Store, which is a mini experience in itself. It has all kinds of cute little pineapple merchandise from stickers, to clothes, and cookware. Everything was so cute it’s nearly impossible to walk out empty handed. Aside from my tasty treat I ended up getting a few stickers. After browsing around I chose my sweet treat for the day : pineapple soft serve. I added the local honey as a topping. This flavor combination was something I never knew I needed. If you haven’t caught on yet I was obsessed with everything pineapple while we were there. Honestly pineapple in Hawaii is something special and I went crazy for it. If you love pineapple on the main land your mind will be blown on the island. It tastes completely different in the best way !
Number 4. Last but certainly not least. Malasadas ! I don’t have a enough words to describe these delicious tasty pastries. They are a type of donut and they are incredible. I am not really even a donut person , but these have me rethinking my life. I usually really hate fillings in all things but I tried it with these and loved it . My favorite was the cookies and cream (which is the grey pictured above) but they had an abundance of flavors. We also tried the caramel and chocolate too which were both very delicious. We waited outside for a very long time but it was definitely worth the wait ! The malasadas were a lot bigger than we expected so take that into consideration when you order it.
All in all our trip was a dream come true. Some days I just wanted to pinch myself I could finally see Hawaii with my own eyes. I had never been on a trip like this up unto this point. It did not take much to exceed my expectations. The sights alone were breathtaking and experiencing the delicious foods was the cherry on top. I could probably call our trip ” A Taste of Maui” because we had the opportunity to experience so many amazing foods. Everything I was able to try was very delicious. Was there anything on this list that you would like to try ? Let me know !
